Annotations for Carrie hope fletcher jamie muscato and original west end cast of heathers dead girl walking reprise

Lyric: Agh
Annotation:
When the fight breaks out we can see that JD isnt trying to do much harm to veronica as he still loves her.All he is trying to do is keep her away from the bomb.We can see that he tries to keep her reasonably close to the door ( theory possibly so that he can drag her out of the room and away from the bomb for her safety as it would be easier to take her away if she is not standing)

Lyric: J.D
Annotation:
(In the pro-shot version)In this part JD reaches for his gun when he hears Veronica speak. He is facing away from her so does not know who it is until he turns around. So he quickly grabs his gun and turns to shoot whoever is disrupting him. When he sees its Veronica his expression changes and he looks betrayed and slowly pulls away the gun. This is the second time we have seen JD hesitate with murder (first being with his dad and he ended up shooting the tv) this shows how much he cares for veronica.

Lyric: Except for me and the monster I created
Annotation:
Veronica says that her and JD should die for the crimes they commited and she says ‘the monster i created’ because when she first met JD he was a nice man who just liked to read and then she felt guilty for Heathers murder because technically it was her fault so she feels as though she led JD to the idea of killing kirt and ram.She feels as though she made JD the psycho he is

Lyric: [VERONICA]
Annotation:
Before you guys get confused, Veronica fakes her suicide that’s why she’s singing (although you most likely know that)

Lyric: Comin’ to put you in the ground!
Annotation:
This is literally what will happen unless Veronica doesn’t stop JD.

Lyric: It’s one more dance and then farewell
Cheek to cheek in Hell with a dead girl walkin’!
Annotation:
The mention of a dance may be a foreshadowing to their fight in the boiler rooms over the gun. A dance to the death. The line, “Cheek to cheek in hell,” suggests that she doesn’t plan on leaving alive, but thinks she is going to hell, thus whatever might happen she’s dragging him to hell with her. This also feels like a parallel to J.D.’s song, “I Am Damaged,” In which she says, “Say hi to god.” This line suggests that she still sees good in him, despite her lines in “Dead Girl Walking (reprise).”

Lyric: Tell me what’s that sound?
Annotation:
Like before, this also alludes to noise happening beyond the students' point of view – this time being the struggle between J.D. and Veronica in the boiler room beneath them.

Lyric: Tell me what’s that sound?
Annotation:
This is a clever allusion to the ticking of the bombs placed almost directly beneath the students – if they could actually hear it above all the noise they’re making.

Lyric: [VERONICA, spoken]
 That’s it!
Annotation:
Earlier in the musical, it was mentioned that J.D.’s father blew up the building J.D.’s mother died in by setting the explosives in the basement so as to bring down the whole building. In this moment, Veronica realizes that J.D. plans to mirror his father’s actions in order to blow up the school.

Lyric: And here I thought you’d lost your taste for faking suicides
Annotation:
Earlier in Act Two, Veronica gets JD to promise to stop killing people and making it look like a suicide. Here, it’s ironic, as Veronica just faked her own suicide to trick JD.

Lyric: Yeah, well, he’s wrong about a lot of things
Annotation:
This is a hint to JD’s feelings about his plans; he feels that he’s right in killing people and blowing up the school, thinking that it’ll make the world a better place, when in reality, it might make the world more destructive. This sparks Veronica’s line, saying out loud he’s wrong, even if Fleming doesn’t get it.

Lyric: Heads up, J.D., I’m a dead girl walking!
Annotation:
She’s telling J.D she’s a dead girl walking because J.D thinks she committed suicide but she just faked it and she’s still alive and walking, making her a “dead girl walking”.

Lyric: I wish I had more TNT!
Annotation:
Veronica tried using emotion to get through to him, but J.D. is passed that point.

Lyric: Veronica! Jason Dean told us you’d just committed suicide!
Annotation:
J.D. had just walked in on Veronica’s dead body- he thinks that she is dead, but she had just outsmarted him.

Lyric: [VERONICA, spoken]
A Norweigan in the boiler room, just like your dad
Annotation:
This is a reference to the original film. In one scene, Big Bud Dean comes in, playing a tape of a building he recently blew up, “with a Norwegian in the boiler room and thermals upstairs.” JD recreates this setup to blow up Westerberg, and Veronica finds him in the boiler room, and says “In the boiler room. Just like your dad.”

Lyric: I wish your mom had been a little stronger

 [J.D., spoken]
 Don’t talk about my mom

 [VERONICA]
I wish she stayed around a little longer

 [J.D., spoken]
 Stop!

 [VERONICA]
I wish your dad were good!
 I wish grown-ups understood!
 I wish we’d met before
They convinced you life is war!
I wish you’d come with me—
Annotation:
In this section Veronica attempts to appeal to J.D’s humanity by bringing up his mother. Sure, he’s pretty screwed up, but he’s human. J.D’s mom died in a building when J.D’s dad blew it up. It is suspected that she stayed in the building on purpose.

Lyric: I threw together a lovely tribute, ’specially given the short notice...
Annotation:
Here Ms. Fleming seems almost disappointed to find that Veronica hasn’t committed suicide. It brings to light that she is using the students' deaths as means to gain popularity, which contributes to one of the overall themes in the musical
